The adorable yet fierce digital board game Armello is making its way to the tabletop! Publisher King of the Castle Games Company has launched a Kickstarter campaign for this exciting adaptation. Suffice it to say, the campaign has already shot past its funding goal.
Armello: The Board Game premiered at PAX Australia and this week, the publisher launched a Kickstarter that unveiled plenty of details about the game. Just like the video game, the game will be a 2 to 4 player asymmetric struggle for power and influence that mixes elements of deckbuilding games and dice combat, providing multiple paths to victory.
Rob Heinsoo, a designer of numerous Dungeons & Dragons and Shadowrun RPG board games, is working on this project alongside a talented team of graphic designers and illustrators who will bring the digital characters to the tabletop. Oh, and yes, the game will come with miniatures to represent your characters, along with 500+ cards, almost 40 custom dice, and even a 3D palace as the central piece.
The game is available in two editions: Standard at $79 and Collector’s Edition at $109, which comes with the aforementioned 3D palace, some dice trays, and various extra goodies unlocked throughout the campaign. Surprisingly, no expansions have been announced yet, considering the video game version had a few that added new playable heroes.
Originally published for PC in 2015 by League of Geeks, Armello was a rarity – a digital-only board game that pitted several animal clans in ruthless (and backstabby!) fights over the throne. Fans of the game have been clamoring for the tabletop version ever since and it’s great that this dream is finally becoming a reality.
Armello: The Board Game should start shipping to backers in April 2025.
