Czech Games Edition (CGE) unveiled Kutná Hora: The City of Silver, their latest board game, during an April 16 Twitch stream. The game is scheduled to be released at Essen Spiel 2023, which runs from October 5th to 8th.

Kutná Hora is a heavyweight, asymmetrical, city-building eurogame designed for two to four players who compete to construct the most successful medieval city. Game designers Petr Čáslava, Ondřej Bystroň, and Pavel Jarosch have integrated a unique mechanic that dynamically influences resource supply and demand throughout gameplay.

Players assume the roles of different guilds responsible for building Kutná Hora. Depending on the resources they control, players can establish monopolies on specific resources and adapt their strategies accordingly. This innovative game mechanic ensures a diverse range of playthroughs.

During the Twitch stream, Petr and Ondřej revealed that they began designing the game with the theme in mind, rather than the game mechanic. This unconventional approach to board game design promises a distinctive experience, as CGE has prioritized incorporating a sense of realism into the gameplay.

The game draws inspiration from the picturesque city of Kutná Hora in the Czech Republic, a popular tourist destination. The city was renowned for its silver deposits in the 14th century, which contributed to its prosperity and regional growth.

Here at Boar Gamer, we eagerly await Essen Spiel 2023 and the opportunity to try this exciting new board game. Stay tuned for our coverage of its full release, particularly since CGE titles rank among our all-time favorites.
