Klaus Teuber, Creator of Catan, Has Passed Away

Klaus Teuber, the renowned board game designer and one of the most prominent figures in the board gaming industry, has passed away at the age of 70 after battling a severe illness. 

Publisher KOSMOS Verlag, with whom Teuber closely collaborated on releasing many Catan games and expansions, confirmed on Twitter that the designer passed away on April 1st.

“Klaus Teuber was one of the great game designers and a dear and close friend of ours. With his many award-winning games, he has delighted millions of people around the world. […] He established and shaped the genre of the “German Boardgame.”

Teuber began making board games in the late 80s, with the publication of Barbarossa and Hoity Toity. His most famous game, which brought board games to the mainstream, was Settlers of Catan, published in 1995. Over the years, he created many fantastic expansions and versions of Catan, bringing joy to millions of people worldwide.

For his efforts, Teuber was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame in 2003, and his games won several Spiel des Jahres awards.
