This year’s BlizzCon had more than a handful of big announcements. We were most excited to see Chris Metzen back at the helm of the Warcraft team and learn that Diablo is finally coming to the tabletop.
Blizzard Entertainment partnered with Glass Cannon Unplugged (Frostpunk: The Board Game) to turn the beloved action RPG franchise into two tabletop games – an RPG and a board game. The duo of publishers announced Diablo: Board Game and Diablo: The Roleplaying Game, titles that will take players back to the Sanctuary and through the Diablo franchise. Visually, the games will share the style with the latest installment in the series, Diablo IV.
Right now, the details about these two games are sparse. What has been confirmed is that the Diablo board game will be crowdfunded just like all previous Glass Cannon Unplugged projects and will be a dungeon-crawling RPG-like board game. On the other hand, the publisher will release the Diablo RPG during BlizzCon 2024. Both games will continue the Diablo lore and the publisher is working closely with Blizzard to deliver the experience fans of the franchise have grown accustomed to.
Diablo: The Roleplaying Game will be a completely fresh new system, unlike similar tabletop adaptations that usually simply reimplement Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules. The publisher has promised the fast-paced, satisfying combat Diablo games are known for, a highly immersive experience, and the opportunity to build your champion the way you want to play – including teetering between the Light and Darkness paths.
Diablo fans can help shape the game by heading to the Glass Cannon Unplugged website and answering a short survey.
